“The inspiration for this home came from the intention to create using local traditions.” One tradition that stood out was the use of cemento pulido, a Mexican take on Venetian plaster, which the design team parlayed into almost every room in the guise of sculpted built-in furniture.

“I’ve always had a passion for sunken living rooms, maybe because I’m a child of the ’70s, or maybe just because they are the best!” enthuses Blakeney, who turned the space into the home’s centerpiece and upholstered it with a Sunbrella outdoor fabric for longevity. A vintage Moroccan coffee table with inlay—a gift from Blakeney to her client—anchors the setting atop a round burnt orange rug from Etsy.

“I felt very strongly about sprinkling the house with color as a tribute to Mexico and its tradition of vibrancy.” Blakeney decided to give the rooftop lounge an electric jolt of color with five different striped fabrics from Sunbrella. A Mexican-made Acapulco chair and a vintage kilim complete the quirky setting.

“We wanted to create spaces that draw you in, that are comfortable and family friendly while also being sophisticated and artful,” reflects Blakeney of the rationale behind the veritable pulido-palooza.

Tropical ombré tile inspired by the sunset, designed by Blakeney in collaboration with La Perla Mosaico Artesanal, animates one wall of the swimming pool, serving as an overture to the interior palette.
